SHIRAS MOOSE HUNT
East Kootaney, British Columbia
the thrill of calling in a bull at dawn, the crisp mountain air in your lungs, the memory etched into your soul.
Step into the untamed wilderness of the East Kootenays where snow-dusted alpine ridges meet vast timber valleys and river bottoms echo with the grunt of the elusive Shiras moose.
The East Kootenays is home to some of the largest Shiras moose in North America. Dense-bodied with heavy, dark paddles and wide spreads. Limited opportunity and controlled access into our remote hunting area offers an authentic backcountry experience with excellent trophy potential.
Our guides know the terrain and the behavior of these cagey bulls providing for a high success. Take comfort in the wild, spike camps, remote cabins, horse assisted access or lodge-based comfort, you choose the level of wilderness. This is your chance to chase one of one of North America's elusive moose subspecies in the rugged back country, where nature still rules and every moment pulses with opportunity. It's not just about taking a bull, it's bout earning it!
This is REAL WILDERNESS, pure and unfiltered, carried on the backs of horses, lived deeply, experienced fully, and earned with sweat, skill, and grit.
You awaken before dawn, the world wrapped in mountain silence. No engines, no roads, just wind through spruce and the distant echo of a bull moose calling across a valley. You cinch your saddle, guide at your side, pack string ready, and step out into the morning light on horseback.
The peak rut, a symphony of scent and sound. Late September through mid-October is sacred here.
This is when bull moose come alive. When a deep, resonant bellow can echo for miles and bring a giant straight to you.
You won’t brag about how comfortable you were.
You will tell tales of the sunrise over untouched valleys, the rhythmic stride of horses through deep mountain meadows, hearing a bull answer your call at first light, the surge of adrenaline when that bull steps into range and riding home with leather, sweat, and wild landscapes etched into your soul.
